Toll has been awarded the Australian Steel Industry’s highest accolade by winning the trophy for Transport Supplier of the Year 2015.

Toll learnt it was a finalist for the trophy following the annual Steel Transport Safety Network (STSN) Awards, where TGL – Contract Logistics picked up the award for Outstanding Contractor Safety and Environment.

The STSN award was conferred on the business for its impeccable safety record, which included the business reaching a safety milestone in April 2015 of five years LTI free across a number of its operations and in a high risk industry due to the nature of the freight moved.

During this five year period TGL – Contract Logistics transported more than 14 million tonnes of steel product, spread over 400,000 loads carried across Australia. Throughout this time, more than 36,000 self-safety audits were carried out as well as ongoing manual training and safety training programs.

TGL – Contract Logistics  was contacted by the Australian Steel Institute (ASI) and informed that it had been selected as a finalist for the ASI Transport Supplier of the Year and in a final submission to the selection committee, the business highlighted the work Toll Group carried out on behalf of its customers in the steel industry.

Jeff Newton, National Manager, Materials Services TGL – Contract Logistics, who was responsible for the ASI submission, said: “Our submission focused on the people that are involved in our business and what drives us to be as safe as possible.

We supplement that want with training, safe equipment and maintenance programs. We don’t take short cuts. We continue to challenge the way we do things and more importantly why we do them, and that the safety of every person involved in our steel operations is important and so are the people waiting for them at home.”

Toll received the award at a gala dinner held in Double Bay Sydney.

Bruce Wilson, Divisional General Manager, TGL – Contract Logistics said: “To be recognised for our commitment to the steel industry is a huge achievement for us. This award isn’t just for the work TGL - Contract Logistics does, but for our other business units who consistently deliver success to our customers in the steel industry. These include Toll NQX, Toll Mining Services, Toll Intermodal and Toll Tasmania.

“I am proud of all our people who work on our steel contracts whether it is for Bluescope, One Steel or Fletchers, or wherever we are operating – this award is a testament to their commitment to safety, to continuous improvement and to contributing to the ongoing success of our customers.”
