Our experience supporting navies from around the world while they are in ports away from home has seen us become a permanent fixture in foreign naval support services.
The Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN) has a diverse fleet which is used to carry out a range of operations, including search and rescue, trade protection, peacekeeping and combat operations.
To support its navy ships in foreign ports, the New Zealand Defence Force needed a remote logistics partner to provide reliable, fully transparent and cost-effective husbandry services to its fleet.
Ensuring the needs of its ships are met consistently requires a flexible team of professionals to deliver vessel and port services in a consistent and timely manner.
From provisioning and waste management to land transportation and port services, Toll’s remote logistics team provide a number of husbandry and port services to RNZN ships including:
- provision of deck, bridge and galley stores
- communication services, including the provision of mobile phones for each vessel
- quarantine, customs, border control and immigration management
- removal of all waste from the vessels at anchor and while alongside the wharf
- storage and delivery of high priority inbound spare parts, and on-going management of the ships’ post-visit outgoing materials
Dedicated Toll agents are on the ground at each port to coordinate planning, liaise with port authorities and procure supplies for the ships when they come to dock in ports around the world.
During 2014, RNZN ships will call at various locations in the Pacific region, including Hawaii – as part of Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC), the world’s largest international maritime warfare exercise – and other Pacific Islands.
It will be the second time in 30 years that the RNZN will participate in RIMPAC, where Toll will provide participating vessels with husbanding services from Pearl Harbour, Hawaii for the two-month duration.
Securing this partnership with the RNZN is a testament to Toll’s dominance in the Asia-Pacific region as a premier provider of vessel husbandry and port services.
In addition to supporting the navies of India, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia and France, we are now the primary provider of ship husbandry services for the Royal Australian Navy, the United States Navy and the Royal New Zealand Navy.
