When one of Australia’s largest online retail and auction companies needed a logistics partner capable of being an extension of its own business and delivering the 100,000+ items it sells per month, Toll provided the solution.

The Challenge

GraysOnline is an Australian online retail and auction company offering an enormous range of consumer, industrial and commercial goods direct from manufacturers and distributors. Its extremely diverse product catalogue ranges from fine jewellery, wine and electronics through to furniture, sports gear, appliances and even mining equipment.

GraysOnline needed a logistics partner with the capability to provide sophisticated, flexible and reliable consumer delivery solutions across its incredibly diverse product range and the capacity to support them in delivering the 100,000+ items they sell each month. To ensure the experience for its customers was seamless, GraysOnline needed a partner capable of being an extension of its own business.

Specific requirements included:

  • national delivery capability covering all freight types, including services to remote locations
  • full range of delivery service offerings – express, overnight, same day, economy
  • ability to consolidate freight from the same sender to the same receiver on the same day, even when separate orders are placed at different times
  • ability to offer GraysOnline customers comprehensive alternate collection options for missed deliveries
  • ability to handle customer returns
  • full integration with GraysOnline’s own Enterprise Resource Planning and Warehouse Management Systems
  • consolidated reporting and invoicing across all service providers

Having the ability to choose the most cost-effective routing for each parcel based on the parcel’s specific delivery requirements, while not compromising its delivery promise to its customers in any way was a particularly important requirement for GraysOnline.

The Solution

With our integrated national network of fleet and depots and our consumer delivery expertise backed by our commitment to customer service, Toll had the capability and capacity to more than meet GraysOnline’s delivery service requirements.
To meet GraysOnline’s specific requirement of having the ability to choose the most cost-effective delivery option for every parcel, Toll was able to bring its market-leading My Transport Service (MTS) solution to the table.

MTS is a managed transport system developed by Toll for our customers to simplify complex transport models and supply chain logistics. Toll’s MTS team undertakes an in-depth interrogation of our customer’s needs, using our sophisticated MTS tool to analyse the exact requirements and provide an optimised transport model.

MTS does everything from automatically selecting the best – and most cost-effective – carrier for each delivery, to optimising load planning, tailoring reporting and consolidating invoicing across all carriers into a single invoice.
