Rail

As pioneers of rail freight on the Queensland coast, Toll NQX has the expertise, experience and equipment to cater for all kinds of industries with the flexibility and time certainty our customers require.

Our history of rail freight innovation stretches back more than thirty years. We led the industry in the move to containerisation back in the late 1970s, we introduced refrigerated rail transport to Queensland, and we’re still leading the way in innovative rail solutions that boost capacity, improve efficiencies and reduce costs for our customers.

Our rail services

Toll NQX offers daily full container loads (FCL) and less than full container loads (LCL). These services include the carriage of general palletised freight, long lengths (2.4m to 12m long) and dangerous goods.

Our rail services include:

  • one-stop-shop account management
  • ability to handle large volumes and stagger deliveries to end receivers
  • flexible pick-up and delivery options
  • cartage of customer-owned containers

Our reach

We offer rail freight services along the Queensland coast from Brisbane to Cairns and west to Mount Isa – we have rail facilities in Bowen, Cairns, Gladstone, Innisfail, Mackay, Rockhampton, Tennyson and Townsville.

Our rail expertise, combined with our unmatched national road network, means we’re able to connect customers Australia-wide, including the most regional and remote areas.

Delivering sustainable solutions

Finding solutions that improve service delivery for our customers while reducing the impact of our environmental footprint is an important part of Toll’s commitment to environmental sustainability. A good example of this is the refrigerated rail units Toll NQX has invested in.

Our refrigerated rail units combine state-of-the-art transport refrigeration technology with optimal fuel efficiency and minimal carbon emissions. They feature:

  • leading transport refrigeration technology that maintains temperature-sensitive goods at precisely the required temperature
  • new ‘diesel direct electric’ architecture that delivers optimal fuel efficiency and reduces carbon emissions
  • embedded telematics to track and monitor units, allowing the location and security of the cargo to be closely monitored
  • remote control technology to control the units, minimising the risk of product loss or damage
