Toll and Army School of Ordnance launch successful secondment program
This year, Toll proudly placed its first member of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) into the business on a three and half month secondment. Megan Webber, Warrant Officer Class Two from the Australian Regular Army joined Toll Remote Logistics (TRL) and worked as a Human Resources Officer at TRL’s head office in Brisbane.
Megan worked alongside Senior HR Advisor, Christine Davies, during the busy recruitment period leading up to the 2017 commencement of Toll’s new helicopter emergency medical services contract with NSW Health, which will see the business service the Australian Capital Territory and New South Wales.
“It was great to have Megan come on board and hit the ground running – her support proved invaluable,” said Christine.
“During her three months, Megan quickly proved her own capabilities particularly in the areas of recruitment and HR administration and proved to be a very worthy asset within the TRL HR team. This was a very worthwhile secondment for both parties.”
During her time at Toll, Megan assisted with the recruitment and on boarding of new employees, including drafting and posting employment vacancies online, shortlisting potential candidates, conducting initial phone interviews, sitting on a panel interviews, conducting reference checks and organising pre-employment medical and police checks.
“I have been in the Army for more than twenty years, so working for a civilian organisation was definitely a challenging and stimulating task,” said Megan.
“This secondment allowed me to gain an insight into a large respected civilian organisation and see and experience different management and leadership styles. I am looking forward to bringing this experience and the lessons I’ve learned back in and applying them within Army and the Australian Defence Force.”
Mark Delany, General Manager of Toll Remote Logistics, said “Megan was a valuable part of our team. Toll Remote Logistics employs many ex-service personnel, and holds a number of Defence contracts so we are proud to be able to further support the Australian Defence Force through initiatives like this placement program.”
