OPERATING PLANS FOR THE OLYMPIC PERIOD
With less than two weeks until the Opening
Ceremony of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, the real impact and atmosphere of
this mammoth event is really starting to be felt across the City.
All of the Sydney-based Toll businesses
are now finalising their plans for what will be an extremely 'operationally
challenging' few weeks. In fact, some have already commenced trialing their
Olympic schedules. Those businesses involved in deliveries to the Olympics venues,
particularly the Coca-Cola contract, are well advanced in "bumping in" stocks.
Toll has been planning for the Olympics
period over the last twelve months. The basis of the planning process has revolved
around understanding customer requirements and the likely transport conditions
and restrictions during the Games period.
Across the Group, businesses have been
pro-active in liaising with customers including presentations and workshops.
For the business units with a large customer base, some surveys have been necessary.
Ongoing liaison with Sydney Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (SOCOG),
Olympic Roads & Transport Authority (ORTA) and the Olympic Commerce Centre (OCC)
has been important to understand the expected impact of the Games on Sydney.
Accordingly each business unit has had
to undertake detailed planning to formulate a customised plan for the Olympic
period. In many cases, this has meant revised operating hours and procedures.
Toll is well prepared to meet the challenges
of the Olympics. At the same time, given the unprecedented nature of the event,
we realised that flexibility and communication will be required to meet specific
and unexpected challenges as they arise.
